Philosophy of Teaching
The eclectic approach is used to teach English in the current course book. The lecturer follows several method principles rather than a single method (Natural Approach, CLIL or CLT). The approach is based on the problems that students encounter in mastering the target language. Thus, the lecturer uses sufficient procedures from available methods and approaches to address the problem.Generally, in order to make a real progress, the main focus is on oral communication. Various activities of listening skill will be covered such as conversations and stories form radio programmes. According to reading skill, as a receptive skill, there is a text in each section so that students make notes to learn the target grammar lesson and discuss feelings and opinions. Hence, they get a clue to write and speak about with little preparation. Another key thing to remember is that the students are taught the stages of writing including thinking, organisation, drafting, editing and rewriting. In light of teaching English, grammar is going to be taught implicitly in a way which students absorb the grammar embedded within communicative activities directly into unconscious automatic processing. In case, if the inductive approach is not appropriate in some situations, the deductive approach will be followed depending on the subject and students’ needs. In terms of vocabulary development, each unit contains some basic vocabulary in order to achieve the objective of understanding the texts and gain the exact meaning of the target vocabularies in advance.
