Biography
My name is Harem Hasan Ahmed Baban. I was born on 1-5-1986 in Rania/Sulaimania. I studied primary, secondary and preparatory school in Rania Schools. Then I studied BA History at Koya University 2005-2009. After that i studied MA History at Bangor University in the United Kingdom. My dissertation was about (The 1941 Iraqi movement: British opposition, Kurds and German attitude). Furthermore, i studied a PhD at Salahadin University Erbil 2021. My thesis was about (The USA policy towards Iraq 1968-1979). Finally i January 2022 i was awarded a scientific title (Assistant Professor in the filed Modern and Contemporary History at Raparin University). Since 2013 until now I am working in the department of history at Raparin University.

Philosophy of Teaching
My Philosophy of TeachingAs an academic specializing in Middle Eastern history and possessing extensive teaching experience spanning undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels for more than a decade, my pedagogical principles are rooted in the conviction that education should equip students with the ability to think critically, engage responsibly with their communities, and contribute to the advancement and reconstruction of our region. Within the realm of higher education in Iraq, marked by the complexities of conflict, transition, and reform, the essence of teaching transcends the mere transmission of knowledge; it pertains to the nurturing of resilient, ethically sound, and discerning individuals.
Central to my teaching philosophy is the adoption of a student-centric approach, wherein learners are not passive recipients of information but active participants in their educational odyssey. I endeavor to foster a classroom atmosphere that fosters candid discourse, exploration, and respectful dialogue, particularly regarding sensitive historical and political topics that hold profound significance in the Iraqi context, intertwined as they are with identity and communal affiliations.
Employing a blend of conventional lectures and interactive methodologies like case studies, collaborative presentations, and practical fieldwork where feasible, my educational strategy underscores the significance of primary sources and critical scrutiny in historical analysis, equipping students with the capacity to challenge prevailing narratives and cultivate autonomous thinking.
Furthermore, I perceive my role as extending beyond the confines of the classroom to that of a mentor. I am committed to nurturing the academic and professional growth of my students by providing guidance, academic writing assistance, and facilitating their engagement with research and civic endeavors. I am particularly enthusiastic about forging connections between historical comprehension and contemporary issues such as migration, sectarianism, and conflict resolution.
In essence, my aspiration is to motivate students not only to grasp the lessons of the past but also to harness that knowledge in shaping a more inclusive, democratic, and harmonious Iraq.
