On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, in the presence of her excellency Assist. Prof. Dr. Paiman Ramazan Ahmad, President of University, Mr. Hiwa Qarani Head of Raparin Administration, the General Director of Raparin Department of Health, Dr Dyar Ibrahim, along with a number of political party representatives and government employees, teachers and students of UOR, College of Nursing held a scientific symposium entitled 'Breast Cancer Awareness' in collaboration with The General Health Directorate of Raparin and Kurdistan Private Hospital in Ranya city.

The event started with a moment of silence, paying tribute to Kurdistan's freedom martyrs. Then Assist Prof. Dr Rebwar Arsalan, Dean of College of Nursing, presented the Dean's speech.
Following that, Dr Dyar Ibrahim, as the representative of General Health Directorate of Raparin, made his speech, outlining the importance of such steps in order to create more public awareness about breast cancer.
Th symposium went on with a panel organized by Ms. Darya Shorsh, presenting a number of seminars including:
- 'Overview of Breast Cancer', by Dr Niaz Mustafa
- 'Diagnosis, Management and Prevention of Breast Cancer', by Dr Bahzad W. Hamad
- 'Rural Women Awareness Regarding Breast Cancer', by Mr Mahmood Arif
Moreover, a number of researchers and medical advisers took part in the event, giving scientific advise about breast cancer; its causes and main symptoms. Furthermore, they mentioned the urgency of breast self-check by women, the importance of breast cancer examination with a specialist. The latest treatment options, a mammogram, breast ultrasound and MRI, breast surgery and scan, radiation therapy and chemotherapy were also discussed.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed that, with the awareness of women on breast cancer, the disease cases can be detected earlier increasing the chances of effective treatment.
