Based on the plans of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the universities of Koya, Soran, Garmian, Zakho, Halabja, Raparin, and Charmo signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) as part of their collaborative agenda. 'This MOU will help enhance cooperative work and academic growth', the Minister of Higher Education says.

In the presence of his excellency, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Aram M. Qadir, an MOU was signed among seven public Universities of Kurdistan at Koya University campus on 6 Feb 2023.

At the meeting, during which the deputy minister along with the presidents of the aforementioned universities was present, Dr. Aram declared that: 'The step that these seven universities have taken will pave the way for cooperative academic work, sharing financial benefits and interests, holding workshops, seminars and conferences, providing study programs, exchange of staff personnel and students, conducting joint researches and sports activities as well as cultural activities'.

Dr. Aram also pointed out that this step is vital to further strengthen the national link among all the areas of Kurdistan, all the way from Zakho to Khanaqin. This will also create, develop and preserve a strong academic impact and institutional growth for every university involved in the collaborative work, and in return, achievement takes place in all areas rather than going through the same repetitive routine.

The MOU among the seven universities shall remain in force and can also be extended for five years or until either university terminates the agreement. The main purpose of this MOU is to establish strong ties between the universities in all duties previously mentioned, and most importantly, to provide Higher diplomas, Master’s degrees, and Ph.D. opportunities for many.
