Today, Saturday, January 13th, 2024, in the presence of the UoR president, Asst. Prof. Dr. Paiman R. Ahmed, and a number of members of the University Council, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Raparin University and the American Corner in Sulaimaniyah.
In a meeting, the president of the University of Raparin, talked about the activities of the international centers at universities, especially at the University of Raparin, during which in the past two years, there were attempts to open several international centers. She also praised the attempts of the Staff of the American Corner in Sulaimaniyah for their eagerness to sign the memorandum of understanding and opening a branch of the American Corner at Raparin University.
Furthermore, the president of the university thanked the dean of the College of Education, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hawraz Qadir, and the Lect. Hema Ahmad, a teacher at the English department, who in the past, have worked hard to open the American Corner Branch at Raparin University.
Then, Mr. Hawbir H. Ali, the director of the American Corner in Sulaimaniyah, pointed out that the activities and the projects of the American Corners are part of the programs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United States, implementing at the academic and scientific centers'. He further stated that there are 700 American Corners all over the world, nine in Iraq, and three in the Kurdistan Region which conduct training courses, scientific and academic activities, and provide their participants with reliable certificates, and their main focus is on further involvement of the students'.
Later, Asst. Prof. Dr. Hawraz Qadir, presented a brief about the steps of opening the branch of the American Corner at the Faculty of Education and the English departments of Raparin University.
According to the MoU, a new branch of American Corner in Sulaimaniyah, will be opened at the UoR's Faculty of Education, and will soon start local and international projects and programs for the students and staff of Raparin University.
